Structural Engineering for Emergencies: Topping-Out Ceremony for the New Werdau Fire Station

The topping-out ceremony on May 28, 2026 marked another significant milestone in the construction of the new fire station for the Werdau Volunteer Fire Department. Despite challenging ground conditions, the structural work was completed in a short period of time and finished on schedule just six months after the ceremonial laying of the cornerstone in late November 2025. A key factor was the excellent collaboration among all companies and specialist planners involved in the construction.

The new building at Breitscheidplatz will feature a modern vehicle hall with eight parking spaces and an adjacent social and functional area with offices, break rooms, as well as workshop and storage spaces. A distinctive feature of the vehicle hall is the roof structure, which was constructed using wooden trusses and enables the hall to span the width without supports. This solution creates optimal conditions for future fire department operations.

The planned investment costs for the project amount to 7.5 million euros, of which approximately 1.5 million euros are funded by the Free State of Saxony.

The topping-out ceremony now marks the successful completion of the structural work phase. The interior finishing and technical installations will follow in the coming months.
