"Am Mühlwerder" Coffee Garden in Halle (Saale) Officially Opened

On June 16, 2026, the “Am Mühlwerder” coffee garden in Halle (Saale) was officially inaugurated. This historic gem combines a restaurant, beer garden, event halls, seminar and conference rooms, vacation apartments, a hostel, a wine bar, and a delicatessen into a versatile venue for socializing, dining, and events.

A particular challenge in the structural engineering was integrating the existing, historically protected buildings with the new structures. The former 18th-century inn, with its rammed-earth walls on the ground floor and timber-frame structure on the upper floor, was renovated and reinforced. The wooden roof structures of the event halls were rebuilt as truss structures.

The historic complex is complemented by several new buildings: a three-story hostel building with a restaurant, kitchen, and reception area on the ground floor; a two-story dormitory building attached to the historic structure; and a three-story tower for administrative and commercial use with a green retention roof. The basement was constructed as a waterproof structure with additional sealing measures to accommodate high-quality uses such as food storage, cold storage rooms, restrooms, and a mechanical plant. The historically protected music pavilion was also renovated and upgraded.

The client is GWG Gesellschaft für Wohn- und Gewerbeimmobilien Halle-Neustadt mbH. The architecture was designed by Atelier ST – Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH, Leipzig.
